This program is a great opportunity to explore China and Chinese culture from a perspective that most tourists never see!

PROGRAM DATES: Depart U.S. on July 10, 2008; teach July 14 - August 1; then travel to Suzhou and Shanghai. Depart for U.S. or further travels in China on August 4, 2008.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
DATES : JULY 10th - AUGUST 4th
Depart from California as a group on July 10th and return to the U.S. or continue with China travels on August 4th. You will arrive in Shanghai to be picked up at the airport by representatives of NJUST. It is approximately a 5-hour drive from Shanghai to Nanjing.
Hosted by: Colorado China Council and Nanjing University of Science and Technology
Apply as early as possible with half or all program fees attached since we can only accept the first 20 qualified applicants.
Professionals in all fields are encouraged to apply. Mature college juniors and seniors with teaching experience will also be considered.
People are of course welcome to stay on in China to travel at the end of the program. Our travel coordinator can make arrangements for you.
Please note: Beijing will be hosting the 2008 Olympics from August 8 - 24. Travel experts expect this to be one of the busiest summers for traveling in China during this time. You are welcome to contact our travel coordinator if you wish to extend your stay in China however be aware that travel might be quite difficult.
TEACHING:
- Teach English language, US history and culture to Chinese high school students, college students, and middle, high school, and college teachers for approximately three hours in the morning, 5 days/week for three weeks.
- Show English language films two afternoons a week.
- The university provides a teacher's manual and student texts for oral English.
- No Chinese required but teaching background very helpful
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES:
- Participate in an introductory Chinese language class.
- Learn about Chinese history and culture in the afternoons with demonstrations and lectures on Chinese cooking, wushu, tai chi, paper-cutting, calligraphy and painting.
- Tour fabulous Nanjing, China's former capital city during the Ming Dynasty and again during the Republican era of the 20th century. Nanjing is a city rich in history, culture and physical beauty. Its gentle hills and heavily forested land make it a great city in which to spend time.
- Visit Zijishan or Purple Mountain, Nanjing Museum, Ming City Wall, Dr. Sun Yatsen Mausoleum, and other major historical and cultural sites.
- Travel to Suzhou and Shanghai at the end of the program.
ROOM AND BOARD:
- All classrooms and housing accommodations are air conditioned.
- Housing is provided on Nanjing University of Science and Technology campus:
- Private hotel room with a bath.
OR
- Two-bedroom flat/apartment shared with another person, which includes private bath, TV, kitchen and refrigerator.
- Housing assignments will be decided after we know the number of participants and individual or family needs.
- Teachers will receive a stipend for food. The university has a number of cafeterias on campus and there are many small restaurants within walking distance of your housing.

Professional development credit available for Colorado teachers.
One semester hour of credit may be accepted for each 15 clock hours of educational travel (cultural activities such as demonstrations, museum visits, etc. while in China). Professional development credit may be available for teachers licensed in other states. Please contact us for more information.
COSTS: $2,975/person for applications received before April 1.
(Cost is $3,225 for applications received after April 1, if space is still available).
Fee covers the above and all administrative costs, plus:
- Roundtrip airfare from California to Shanghai and return. Costs increase depending upon your initial departure city if not LA or San Francisco. The entire group will arrive together in Shanghai.
- Transportation with the group by bus from Shanghai International Pudong Airport to Nanjing University of Science and Technology. Teachers who elect not to travel with the group will be responsible for their own transportation to the university.
- Chinese visa.
- Medical Evacuation Insurance.
- Books and Orientation materials.
* Costs based on 2007 airfare; airfare changes at time of purchase may increase or reduce your cost. Any deviation from set departure itinerary will incur $100 surcharge for EACH change.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:
Please mail:
- One-page resume emphasizing academic or teaching background. Include travel, hobbies, sports, musical interests, etc.
- Application form which you can download off this web site (click here).
- One CLEAR, LEGIBLE copy of the picture page of passport for ALL members of your party. Scanning sometimes works best.
- One letter of recommendation from an employer, professor, or family doctor. Letters from personal friends are not acceptable.
- General Liability Release, signed and dated. Form may be downloaded from this web site (click here).
- Please mail/Fed Ex: A check for $1,487.50 (half of the fee) made out to Colorado China Council. The entire $2,975 fee must be received no later than May 1 (see DEADLINE below).
Reasons for Being Unable to Accept an Applicant:
The only reasons we would be unable to accept someone into this program is because we have reached our maximum number of teachers; we feel that there is a genuine health concern such as severe asthma, a weight issue, etc.; or too little classroom experience.
DEADLINES
To secure a position please submit half ($1,487.50) of total fees with application and submit any remaining program fees by May 1.
PASSPORTS must be hand-walked through a Chinese Consulate by our NY Travel Agent in order to get a visa stamp. Passports must arrive in New York with a JUNE 1 postmark!!! This is a HARD DEADLINE. We will send you an information sheet in May with instructions for sending your passport to our NY Travel Agency. DO NOT SEND YOUR PASSPORT TO THE COUNCIL.
The Visa application will be mailed to you. Put visa-size picture at top right hand corner. The visa photo must be done professionally at a place like Kinko's to be accepted by the Chinese Consulate/Embassy.
CANCELLATION POLICY:
BEFORE June 1st HALF ($1,487.50) of your fees are refundable.
AFTER June 1st NO FEES ARE REFUNDABLE.
