Hosted by the Colorado China Council at the Nanjing University of Science and Technology (NJUST), Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, this program is a great opportunity to explore China and Chinese culture from a perspective that most tourists never see. Professional teachers and couples are encouraged to apply. Older children between the ages 12-17 are also welcome. While the parents teach we will organize a program for the younger people to interact with their Chinese peers in a fun, interesting and educational setting at a school next to the campus. We can offer sports, martial arts, and traditional Chinese arts and crafts for students depending on the size of the group and interest level. Fees for students are the exact same as for the adults.
You must at least be going into your senior year of college to teach.
This is a three-week program, from July 1-24, 2010, with an option to travel at the end of the formal program. Group will depart from the US July 1st and classes will run from July 5-23.
You will arrive in Shanghai to be picked up at the airport by representatives of NJUST who will then take the group by train to Nanjing which is approximately two hours away.
If you choose to stay on in China to travel at the end of the program, our travel coordinator can make arrangements for you.
Professional development credit is available for Colorado teachers. One semester hour of credit may be accepted for each 15 clock hours of educational travel (cultural activities such as demonstrations, museum visits, etc. while in China). Professional development credit may be available for teachers licensed in other states. Please contact us for more information.
You must be fully capable of standing up in front of a class room of Chinese people of ALL English language levels from minimal English to fluent and provide interesting material and interaction for THREE HOURS, with appropriate breaks. We can suggest texts and ESL resources to use but you are essentially on your own for lesson planning! You must be the judge of whether or not you are capable of doing this with credibility and competence. The emphasis is on conversational English and the resources out there are vast.
Fee covers the above and all administrative costs, plus:

If at least four people have signed up before June 1, we will refund all but $300 of your fees.
After June 1, no fees are refundable.
The only reasons we would be unable to accept someone into this program is because we have reached our maximum number of teachers; we feel that there is a genuine health concern such as diabetes, hearing or visual impairment, severe asthma, a weight issue, etc. or too little classroom experience.
