application form COMPLETELY and CAREFULLY and
enclose it with:
RESUME for GRADUATING SENIORS
AND RECENT COLLEGE GRADS: One page resume specifically focused on
teaching English in China. At the top put "Objective: To Teach English
in China.". These are very competitive positions. You are applying to be an
English Instructor so universities aren't interested in Chinese language and
Asian Studies courses. Emphasize educational background more than work history,
unless it specifically relates to teaching. List all American and English
literature, language, linguistics, journalism and creative writing courses,
etc. MENTION: major and minor fields; GPA if it is a 3.0 or higher; all teaching/tutoring
jobs; languages; international travel; honors, interests, activities and computer skills, etc. DO
NOT MENTION: volunteer work, political work of a controversial nature, construction, waitress work,
bartending, or paid/volunteer positions held which do not relate in any way
to these teaching positions. Don't put your address or email on the resume, since all
correspondence needs to go through the Council.
RESUME/CV for ESTABLISHED PROFESSIONALS: Two to four pages maximum. Avoid
being technical. Please emphasize any teaching, tutoring, public speaking
or seminar teaching. Don't put your address on the resume, since all correspondence
needs to go through the Council. At the top put "Objective: To Teach
in China.". Also send this as an MS Word document attachment. Your application CANNOT BE ACCEPTED in you cannot send it in the format requested. We MUST receive your materials in the requested format. Document transfer to China is a long and exhausting process if we do not receive documents in the correct format.
APPLICATION PACKETS NEED TO INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING IN THE REQUESTED FORMAT:
- TRANSCRIPTS, OFFICIAL University generated transcripts. All Chinese universities need transcripts. Call if you have questions.
- COPY OF PASSPORT PICTURE PAGE. Must be a clear, legible copy so it cannot be faxed to us. IT MUST BE BLACK AND WHITE, NOT COLOR and it also must be sent as a PDF!!!!!!!!!
- COPY OF YOUR DIPLOMA(S), if you have already graduated or when you do graduate. We must have this BEFORE you depart. No matter what age you are the universities will still want a copy of all college diploma and transcripts. Diplomas MUST be sized to 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper and it must be a copy of the original! We CANNOT accept photos of framed diplomas.
- TWO LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION on letterhead stationary, preferably from professors or current employer. Letters can arrive two weeks after the rest of the materials.
- PHOTO that you think typifies you and will be helpful identifying you when you arrive at the airport - no hats or sunglasses.
- APPLICATION PROCESSING FEE OF $100, non-refundable, payable to Colorado China Council. We will not process your application without enclosed fee.

- If you wish to bring children please list their names, ages, grade going into and individual educational objectives while in China, and include a photocopy of the picture page of their passport as well as emailing it as a scanned attachment. These documents have to be completely legible which is why we ask for a hard copy and scanned copy.

of graduating seniors and recent college graduates of six years). What do
you hope to personally accomplish, and what challenges do you think you
will encounter living and teaching in China. Also, why do you think you
will make a good teacher. Please attach a three-hundred word essay.

IMPORTANT. Do you have asthma,
allergies, diabetes, chronic bronchitis, depression, stomach
problems, obesity issues, alcoholism or other health concerns we should be aware of before accepting you into the program or placing you in China?
By failing to include important health information you can
endanger your health! Chinese universities will terminate contracts and send you back to North America at your expense if you have health problems that interfere with your ability to teach.

Do you plan on
being out of the U.S. for more than a few weeks at any time between now
and your departure date? If so, when will you be gone, and will you be accessible
by phone/fax? It is important that we be able to reach you over breaks,
especially in June and July.

Are you applying
to any other China/Asia placement organizations and if so, which ones? Also,
are you waiting to hear from graduate school, law school, or hear about
a specific job that will slow down your decision making ability? If so,
